SAM Magazine-New York, Sept. 13, 2006-Time Inc. has put 18 of its titles, including Ski, Skiing, and Warren Miller Entertainment and the TransWorld group, up for sale. A spokeswoman said the company hopes to complete a deal by early 2007.

"While these titles are good performers, Time Inc. is focusing its energy, resources and investment on our largest and most profitable brands," Time Inc. chief executive Ann Moore wrote in a letter sent to employees Tuesday morning.

Included in the sale are most of the Time4 Media titles, including Mountain Sports Media's Ski and Skiing (and Warren Miller Entertainment), TransWorld Media's Surf, Snowboarding, Skateboarding and Motorcross, plus Popular Science, Yachting, SaltWater Sportsman, and Field & Stream. Time Inc.'s Parenting and Babytalk titles are also included.

Last month, new circulation reporting rules put into effect by the Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC) had shown that several Time Inc. titles were relying heavily on what are now termed "verified" rather than "paid" circulation-that is, non-paid copies that were distributed to identified individuals with a strong connection to the magazines' content. Many of these titles, including Ski and Skiing, are among the titles that are for sale.

Time Inc. is keeping Time4 Media's Golf and This Old House publications, leaving it with 132 magazine titles.
