SAM Magazine-Sugarloaf, Me., Apr. 20, 2007-Following three major April snowstorms, several eastern areas have pushed their closing dates into the latter half of April.

Among those open until Apr. 29 are Sugarloaf, Le Massif, Que., and Stowe, and (possibly) Sugarbush, Jay Peak, Vt., and Wildcat, N.H.; the last of these had previously extended its closing date to Apr. 22. The areas received between two and nearly four feet of snow from the mid-month Nor'easter, and most had 100 percent of their trails open heading into the weekend of Apr. 21-22. At mid month Sugarloaf had a base of 95 inches at the summit, with six feet of snow in April. Jay Peak, Stowe, and Wildcat recorded similar totals. Thanks to the same storms, Whiteface and Gore Mountain, N.Y., also extended their operations through the weekend of Apr. 21-22, and further south, Jiminy Peak, Mass., extended its season for the second time, also through this weekend.

As usual, Killington, Vt., plans to operate into May, as it has for more years than we can count.
