SAM Magazine-Bend, Ore., Feb. 27, 2009-Mt. Bachelor is one of the most recent resorts to partner with SOS Outreach, the Colorado-based organization that builds character and confidence for underserved youth through snowsports. The five-day program emphasizes core values and positive adult interaction. Clothing, equipment and lift tickets are provided to the 21 participants in the Bachelor program.

"The mountain environment is such a powerful setting for personal growth. It is very rewarding to be able to offer this opportunity to at-risk youth in our community," says Amy Ohran, ski school director at Mt. Bachelor.

Bachelor's program begins Mar. 1. The participants, ages 12 to 18, were chosen by local youth agencies including the Cascade Youth and Family Center, Oregon Family Support Network and The Tamarack Center. Bachelor is providing lift tickets, rental equipment, and instructors with expertise in youth development to serve as role models and stewards of the SOS mission.

"I'm extremely excited about the opportunity to have local Oregon residents participate in our program at Mt Bachelor, said Lindsay Davis, regional program director for SOS Outreach NW. "We're truly grateful to have support for the program, and I can't wait to see the smiling faces of the kids."

SOS currently reaches 3,600 students annually, at more than 20 areas nationwide. A more complete report on SOS will appear in the March 2009 issue of SAM.
