SAM Magazine-Mt. Buller, Australia, May 19, 2008-Australia's first sixpack highlights more than $25 million (AUD) worth of investment across the country as the 2008 ski season is primed for kickoff. The lift, at Mt. Buller, is the first of its kind for the nation. Other investments include a whopping AUD $16.25 million in snowmaking improvements at Perisher Blue. The new system features 99 guns and associated infrastructure. Perisher Blue and Charlotte Pass also have beefed up their terrain park offerings.

Perisher Blue's park additions include an S-box, table box, battleship box and an 8m round bar rail as well as new beginner features. Hits will also be added in the Columbia Fun Park on Mt. Piper to provide comfortable progression for emerging freeriders.

According to Matt Klemm, grooming manager for Perisher Blue, the investment should result in approximately 50 features on tap for the season. The resort has already started to make snow in anticipation of a June 7 opening date.

"Australian resorts continue to investigate, test and then implement, the world's best in alpine technology," says Andrew Ramsey, executive director of the Australian Ski Areas Association. "It is essential we stay up to date to strengthen winter alpine tourism, which contributes AUD $1.3 billion net to the national economy. These works will ensure Australia's resorts stay well ahead of other southern hemisphere snow destinations." \
