SAM Magazine-Schladming, Austria., June 2, 2008-This Austrian resort outpolled Vail/Beaver Creek and will host the 2013 Alpine World Ski Championships. The decision emerged from the FIS 46th International Ski Congress in Cape Town, South Africa. Schladming defeated competing bids from St. Moritz, Switzerland and Cortina, Italy, in addition to Vail.

In other FIS news, Vikersund, Norway will be the host venue of the 2012 FIS Ski Flying World Championships, Val di Fiemme, Italy will host the 2013 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, and Stoneham, Canada will host the 2013 FIS Freestyle World Championships and the 2013 FIS Snowboard World Championships. \
