SAM Magazine-Ludlow, Vt., Aug. 15, 2008-Okemo has added approximately eight acres of expert terrain, bringing the resort's total to 632 acres. The new terrain consists of two runs, White Lightning and Rolling Thunder, the final two trails of the original Jackson Gore layout. White Lightning measures about 1,000 feet long and Rolling Thunder is about 2,600 feet long. The latter has a vertical drop of 850 feet.

"These are not your typical Okemo trails," said VP of operations Barry Tucker. "Offering some of the steepest pitch at Jackson Gore, they have lots of character with natural outcroppings and contours to enhance the way these trails will ski."

During construction, crews took steps to mitigate impacts and to avoid wetlands, hauling felled trees uphill with a winch, to a point where they could be loaded onto trucks and removed via the resort's Mountain Road. \
