SAM Magazine - GALENA, Il., September 8, 2008 - Chestnut Mountain Resort, a popular Midwestern resort destination, which features skiing with Mississippi River views and the largest terrain park in the Midwest, has been sold. The mountain, previously owned by St. Louis businessman Joe Burnsein since 1979, was purchased by the Paul Family.

The ski operations feature 19 runs served by 9 lifts, with extensive snowmaking. The ski area has a vertical drop of 475 feet. Of particular note is the resort's commitment to their terrain park, which is served by a dedicated triple chair and which features seven acres of quarter pipes, half pipes, box jumps and more than 20 types of rails.

The Paul Family lives in rural Jo Daviess County and the Galena area since 1986 and considers it a privilege to have been able to purchase Chestnut Mountain Resort. They look forward to many exciting changes, including the addition of an outdoor deck overlooking the beautiful Mississippi River. \
