SAM Magazine - Big Sky, Mt., October 1, 2008 - A potentially dangerous situation was avoided when aggressive action by wildfire crews contained a fire at Big Sky ski resort. The Spanish Peaks Fire, located in the Spanish Peaks Subdivision near Big Sky, was contained Monday night at approximately 10:00 p.m. The fire burned near the base of the Southern Comfort Ski Run, part of the Big Sky Ski Resort.

"The quick response from Big Sky Fire Department, the Gallatin National Forest, and Yellowstone Club was integral to the quick containment of this fire," Marna Daley, Gallatin National Forest Public Affairs Officer said on Tuesday. "There will be engines on scene today to continue mop up efforts. The two 20-person crews (ordered Monday evening) have been cancelled because of last night's successful suppression efforts and the two helicopters have been released."

The fire, detected around 2:30 p.m. Monday afternoon, was human caused and is under investigation.
