SAM Magazine-Sacramento, Calif., Jan. 16, 2009-In the wake of a mixed holiday season that saw both slumps and records set, resorts are still seeking ways to drive traffic to the lifts.

One of the more recent promotions is Squaw Valley's Sacramento shuttle service. The shuttles leave Sacramento at 7 a.m. every Saturday for Squaw Valley, providing Bay Area and Sacramento area skiers with an environmentally friendly and cost-effective mode of transportation. For $79 (the price of an adult lift ticket), shuttle riders get skiing and transportation to and from Squaw Valley. The service is also available to non-skiers; season passholders may reserve transportation for $40.

Travel is also the focus of Aspen/Snowmass' partnership with Frontier Airlines. The joint Free Flight, Free Night and Free Day offer gives guests the opportunity to package two tickets to Aspen/Snowmass on Frontier Airlines with a minimum of four nights lodging and four days of skiing/riding to get one free airline ticket and a fifth night of lodging and a fifth day of skiing/riding free. If guests rent equipment through Four-Mountain Sports and D&E Ski and Snowboard Shop, they get the fifth day free with every four-day rental.

On the east coast, Jiminy Peak is offering 50 percent off the resort's Midweek SKIwee price every Wednesday and Thursday Jan. 14-29. The program for children ages 3-12 includes a lift ticket, lesson and lunch. The resort is also offering several lodging specials, including a Martin Luther King Weekend Lodging Special and a Free Thursday Night special, valid for Thursday check-ins that include a weekend stay. \
