SAM Magazine-Tannersville, Pa., March 23, 2009-Camelback Mountain Resort, in its 46th year, will set a new mark for length of season on Wednesday, its 124th day of operation. The old record was set in 1992-93.

To celebrate the milestone, Camelback will offer a special $12.40 lift ticket on Wednesday. Camelback anticipates it will close temporarily Monday through Thursday next week, then operate Friday and Saturday, for a 130-day season. This record-setting accomplishment will also be marked by noteworthy special deals throughout the resort, highlighted by a $9.99 lift ticket on Saturday, April 4.

Camelback President Arthur Berry called the record-setting season "a great tribute to our snowmaking team-many of whom have been doing it since I started skiing here in high school." Camelback also added capacity to its snowmaking system last fall, which helped the area get an early start on the season.

"Perhaps more significant this year, an extended ski season positively impacts the regional economy, driving tourism and providing jobs," Berry added.

For some historical perspective on this season, consider that when Camelback first opened its doors, The Beatles had just released "I Want to Hold Your Hand;" at age 23, Jack Nicklaus won his first of six Masters Championships; and Dr. King delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. The last time that skiers and riders enjoyed such a long season at Camelback, Bill Clinton had just been sworn in as President, and the "Storm of the Century"-the Blizzard of '93-hammered the East Coast with record snowfalls from Alabama to Canada.
