SAM Magazine-Cody, Wyo., Aug. 31, 2009-After several years of dormancy and two years of renovation and expansion, Sleeping Giant Ski Area will reopen for the 2009-10 season. The community-oriented, 180-acre area, closed since 2004, is located just outside the East Entrance to Yellowstone National Park. It is owned and operated by the non-profit Yellowstone Recreations Foundation.

Sleeping Giant has one double and one chair plus a new Magic Carpet conveyor. Vertical has doubled, to 900 vertical feet, skiable acreage has quadrupled, and snowmaking has been installed. The area will add a terrain park with 14 features, including quarter pipes, rails, boxes and jumps. Features have been constructed almost entirely of materials found on the hill.

Sleeping Giant Ski Area originally opened in 1936, making it one of the oldest ski areas in the country.
