SAM Magazine-Park City, Utah, Mar. 19, 2010-Park City Mountain Resort, The Canyons Resort and Deer Valley Resort are hosting their 2nd annual Wasatch Backside Lifty Invitational (WBLI) Mar. 29-Apr. 2, 2010. The event is held "to recognize the hard work of our lift operations teams," said Jeff Marzka, lift operations manager at Park City Mountain Resort.

The Wasatch Backside Lifty Invitational consists of 12 events, four held at each resort, taking place over a three day period. The event kicks off Mar. 29 at Deer Valley with the Clock Toss, Stop Gate Javelin, Boot Toss and Snow Scoop Heft. The event moves to the Canyons Mar. 31, where lifties compete in Maze Setup, Lost & Found Mound, Tug of War and the Trash Can Fill. The finale at Park City Apr. 2 includes Scoop Relays, Return Gear Relay, Ski Pole Spin Relay and the 40 Yard Ski Boot Relay. Events begin at 5:00 p.m. each day.

"Lift Operations can really be a thankless job," said Deirdre Riley, lift operations manager at The Canyons. "All three resorts have great teams that work hard and play hard! What better way to focus all that energy then to challenge each other at the skills we use everyday."

Paul Hedman, lift operations manager at Deer Valley Resort, added, "the WBLI is highly anticipated and really serves as a morale booster for employees at this point in the season. It's not just the event days, either. We're having fun training and practicing before and after work."
