SAM Magazine--Ski Areas of New York, Inc. (SANY) is announced that total skier and tubing visits for the 2009-2010 season were 4,118,000, which represents an increase of 1 percent over the 2008-2009 season. The increase in visits in NY is worthy of note as the northeast as a whole was down 2.7%.

"Visits throughout New York, with a few exceptions, were strong all season," says Scott Brandi, president of SANY. "We had two previously closed resorts reopen in 2009-2010 which brings our resort count to 48, the most of any state in the nation. Two new resort hotel properties also opened, the Tamarack Club at Holiday Valley and Hope Lake Lodge at Greek Peak."

New York ranks fourth in visits closely behind Vermont and just ahead of Utah. Colorado ranks first and California second.
