SAM Magazine-Burr Ridge, Ill., July 26, 2010-The Winter Dew Tour, which showcases top skiers and riders in slopestyle and superpipe, begins at Breckenridge, Colo., Dec. 16-19, moves to Killington, Vt., Jan.20-23, and concludes with the Toyota Championship at Snowbasin Feb. 10-13, 2011. Breckenridge will also stage the Open Qualifiers, where would-be freeski and snowboard stars compete for a spot on the Tour.

NBC will televise all three stops live, with additional broadcasts on USA Network, MTV2 and Universal HD, along with other media.

The big change in the schedule concerns the Eastern site, which has moved from Mount Snow to Killington to give the tour two stops (Killington and Snowbasin) with 22-foot pipes. The opening event at Breck, which includes the open qualifying, is the only one to use an 18-foot pipe. Breckenridge is said to be committed to building a 22-foot pipe (and hosting major events) for the 2011-12 season.

Chris Prybylo, general manager of the Winter Dew Tour, said that the move to 22-foot pipes will attract the top athletes, as they prefer bigger pipes with their greater potential for tricks and smoother transitions.

Mount Snow considered building a 22-foot halfpipe to retain the Dew event, but practical issues and a desire to maintain the Carinthia location as a park for all abilities dictated the pipe remain at 18 feet. The area, which also hosted the Winter X Games in the early years of the 2000s, is now seeking a new signature snowboarding event.
