SAM Magazine-Taylors Falls, Minn, Oct. 29, 2010-Wild Mountain, Minn., and Boreal, Calif., both opened for business today, adding to the flurry of openings in the past week.

For Wild Mountain, it marks the 35th year the area has been the first in the Midwest to open. Rates were determined by bow many Facebook fans the area had-the more "likes" the area received, the lower it planned to set the day's price.

Boreal noted that, even with less than ideal snowmaking conditions, it would be the first to open in California. It's running the Nugget chair and Castle Peak quad, and will operate through the weekend. Tickets for opening day were $15, including night skiing. All season passes were being honored, regardless of any restrictions, through the opening weekend as well. The area will have two runs and two park lanes open through the weekend.

Both areas indicated that the operating schedule beyond this weekend has not been determined. \
