SAM Magazine-Donner Summit, Calif., July 12, 2011-Boreal Mountain Resort will expand its presence in action sports with the opening of Woodward Tahoe, an action sports freeride and freeski instructional center and camp program, in the summer of 2012.

The local planning commission recently approved Boreal's plans for a 33,000 square foot facility, the largest of its kind in the U.S., at the base of the resort. Woodward Tahoe will operate as a year-round facility for instruction, training, special events and camp programs. It will be the second such facility in the U.S.; the first winter sports-oriented Woodward facility was established at Copper Mountain, Colo., a sister resort to Boreal in the Powdr Corp. stable. Woodward at Copper opened in 2009.

"What is so exciting for me is to be partnered with an organization such as Woodward that prides itself on being a premier learning center for youth and a training center for high level and professional action sports athletes in snowboard, ski, skate and BMX," said Jody Churich, Boreal's general manager.

"Woodward Tahoe will bring a brand new set of experiences and opportunities to everyone who visits Boreal,: said Gary Ream, president and long-time leader and creative force behind Woodward. "We have learned a great deal from our success at Copper. Bringing 'the Woodward experience' to Boreal will be a great opportunity and an exciting adventure for all of us."
