SAM Magazine visited Highland Mountain Bike Park in Northfield, N.H., for another installment of the SAM CAM series. Highland Mountain Bike Park, formally Highland Ski Area, was purchased by businessman Mark Hayes in 2003. He transformed the 200-acre area into a state-of-the-art, lift-serviced mountain biking facility with a 9,100-square-foot indoor training center and a rental and repair shop.

Highland is a rider-built, rider-owned operation that caters to all ages and ability levels. The Park operates from early May through mid-November, offering downhilling, slopestyle courses, pump tracks and more. Two new trails are currently being built, including a four-mile cross-country trail and a kid-friendly, cruiser trail for families with young children. Highland offers a Find Your Ride lesson program as well as Ayr Academy Camps that run as one-week sessions, four times during the summer season. Additional clinics focus on women, children, teenagers and the indoor training center.

Hayes has a simple philosophy: "We want the first-time rider and the top rider and everyone in between. Our goal is to continue to grow first-timers because that is our future." Here's a quick look at his vision.
