SAM Magazine—Boston, Mass., Nov. 6, 2012—Vermont's ski resorts are launching a fundraising campaign this week in Boston, and online, to help residents of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut impacted by super storm Sandy. Dubbed Operation Mountains of Love, all of the funds raised will go to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.

“Our friends are going through something that Vermont knows all too well," said Parker Riehle, president of the Vermont Ski Areas Association. "When Irene hit us last year, New York, New Jersey and Connecticut rallied to support Vermont—they had our backs. Now, it's our turn to rally for them and we want them to know we have their backs as they do the difficult work of bouncing back.”

There are several aspects to the campaign, from collecting funds from visitors to the Boston Ski and Snowboard Expo to $10 SMS text and online donations. Expo guests who donate $10 or more become eligible for free or discounted tickets and coupons from Ben & Jerry's, and are entered into a prize drawing, which includes vacation packages.

In addition, Sugarbush resort will match donations dollar for dollar up to $25,000, and Long Trail Brewing will match up to $500 in donations.

Okemo Mountain Resort has already donated $10,000 to the Red Cross relief effort. Okemo is also extending a donation challenge to its loyal skiers and riders over Thanksgiving Weekend. The first 1,000 people who make a donation of at least $50, on Friday, Nov. 23 through Sunday, Nov. 25, will receive one complimentary one-day adult lift ticket valid for redemption non-holiday Mondays through Fridays during the 2012/2013 winter season.
