SAM Magazine—June Lake, Calif., Nov. 9, 2012—June Mountain Ski Area will be closed this winter, but will re-open for the 2013-14 winter season, Mammoth Mountain CEO Rusty Gregory said earlier this week.

June, which is owned by Mammoth Mountain, was closed last spring after several seasons of operating in the red. Gregory said that Mammoth will use the coming year to relaunch the area with a new mission and targeted market. Currently, the plan is to position June as a destination for young families. But the details of what that means are yet to be determined. Carl Williams, June's general manager, will work closely with the June Lake community “to define a more clearly-identified market niche for June,” Gregory told the Mammoth Times.
