SAM Magazine—Duluth, Minn., May 30, 2014—The Spirit Mountain recreation area has hired a new executive director, Brandy Ream, to replace Renee Mattson, who is stepping down from the post. Ream will assume her new role in June after she and her family relocate from Washington State to Duluth.

Before ascending to her new position, Ream was director of development and business operations at Ski Bluewood in Dayton, Wash., for the past few years. Prior to that post, she managed the Boston Mills and Brandywine ski areas in northeastern Ohio. She also has served as a business and marketing consultant to other resorts in the Midwest.

At Spirit, Ream will supervise the recreation area's year-round operations, which include an adventure park and mountain coaster, mountain biking, alpine skiing, snowboarding and other activities.

“Brandy brings an incredible depth and breadth of ski resort management experience,” Spirit Mountain board chairwoman Jane Gilbert-Howard said in a statement. “Each of the resorts she has managed experienced significant revenue growth while reducing expenses. But what was most notable was her passion for skiing and great customer service.”
