SAM Magazine--Los Alamos, N.M., July 11, 2014--The Los Alamos Ski Club announced that a 2/3 majority of voting members approved the transfer of Pajarito Mountain Ski Area to Los Alamos County and the management group that operates Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort. The partnership will ensure the future of skiing and year-round recreational activities at Pajarito, said outgoing Los Alamos Ski Club president Philip Rae. Sipapu is located 70 miles east of Pajarito.

The first order of business, say the new managers, will be to improve Pajarito's snowmaking infrastructure to ensure a full operating season—one that includes daily operation (historically, Pajarito's lifts turn Fridays through Sundays when there is sufficient snowfall). The group hopes to open around Thanksgiving. In addition to investing in water and snowmaking, Sipapu plans to enhance both the winter and summer on-mountain experience at Pajarito through trail, lift, terrain park, tree skiing and mountain bike trail expansions and improvements.

The two areas will exchange priveleges for season passholders (a pass costs $299, $199 for Pajarito only). The combined pass will also include free lift tickets at 27 partner resorts in New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and more.
