SAM Magazine—Durango, Colo., Feb. 26, 2015—Durango-based investor and resort entrepreneur James Coleman has completed his purchase of Durango Mountain Resort. He marked the occasion by declaring he will change the name of the area back to Purgatory.

Last October Coleman revealed a plan to buy both Purgatory and Arizona Snowbowl, complementing his management of Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort and Pajarito Mountain in New Mexico. The final sale of Arizona Snowbowl is still pending. Nonetheless, a new Purgatory Power Pass, which entitles access to all four areas, will go on sale next month for the 2015-16 ski season.

Coleman has a history of upgrading the resorts he owns. Already, he has said he wants to add new terrain and upgrade lifts as set forth in the resort's master development plan.

Purgatory's former owners, Florida investor Chuck Cobb and the Duncan family, retain the resort's real estate holdings.
