SAM Magazine—Bear Lake, Calif., March, 11, 2015—Snow Summit's summer operations will shift into a higher gear with the addition of a four-mile beginner mountain biking trail, a zip line, and a climbing wall. The announcement came in conjunction with the finalization of Mammoth Mountain's $38 million acquisition of Snow Summit and Bear Mountain, first reported in September 2014.

The new trail for the Snow Summit Bike Park is a small part of a larger strategic plan developed by Gravity Logic. “This new trail will be easy compared to what we already have built over the past couple years, which has been world class with the help of Gravity Logic,” said Brent Tregaskis, general manager of Snow Summit and Bear Mountain.

Big Bear Mountain Resorts COO David Likins said mountain biking is a core component of the resort's business. The area plans to continue expanding its operation on a trail-by-trail basis as needed to satisfy rider demand. Other foreseeable developments include building out the base area to be more “spectator-friendly” with a seasonal pump track and bike park terrain features that are visible from the chairlifts and base area, and addition of self-loading bike trays compatible with its detachable chairlift.

Mammoth will offer a bike park pass good at both Snow Summit and Mammoth, similar to its “Cali4nia” season ski pass.

Rusty Gregory, CEO at Mammoth, said no other major changes to the areas would be made in the immediate future, but did suggest the possibility of linking the two areas with additional slopes and a chairlift in the future. The areas are about one mile apart.
