SAM Magazine—Washington, D.C., Oct 14, 2015—More than 120 ski and snowboard resorts have signed up to take part in a Guinness Book of World Records biggest-lesson-ever attempt in an effort to generate press coverage and a slew of newcomers to skiing and snowboarding.

The event will take place at 10 a.m. local time Jan. 8, 2016 at resorts across the U.S. It is being held in conjunction with Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month, and serves as the unofficial kick-off for the program.

The Guinness event will simultaneously try to set four world records: the world's largest multi-venue ski lesson, the world's largest multi-venue snowboard lesson, the world's largest single-venue ski lesson, and the world's largest single-venue snowboard lesson. Currently, the records for single-venue ski and snowboard lessons are approximately 500 people.

Still, only a few resorts are expected to vie for the single-venue record. “We are not taking about giant lessons at each venue,” said Mary Jo Tarallo, director for Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month/Bring a Friend. “If a venue has 100 beginners, that may mean 10 lessons with 10 people. It depends on the venue."
