SAM Magazine—Campton, N.H., Dec. 3, 2015—Dan Egan, extreme skiing legend and founder of Degan Media, has received the 2016 North American Snowsports Association's (NASJA) Mitch Kaplan Award for Excellence in Snowsports Coverage.

The award is presented annually to the journalist whose work and spirit best captures the enthusiasm and dedication Mitch Kaplan brought to NASJA and to the coverage of snowsports. Phil Johnson, a ski columnist for Schenectady, N.Y.'s Daily Gazette, nominated Egan for the award.

A Boston area native, Egan has been at the forefront of ski adventures for more than 35 years. He appeared in 12 Warren Miller films and produced films on his own through his Wide World of Winter television series, which has three Emmy Award nominations. Egan founded the Egan Entertainment Network, Inc., now known as Degan Media, in 1989 to market and promote skiing around the world. In 2006, Powder magazine named the extreme skiing pioneer one of the "Top Skiers of All Time."

Egan's current TV show, “New England Ski Journal with Dan Egan,” is broadcast on Comcast SportsNet New England, Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. His current radio show, “Edging the Xtreme,” is broadcast on RadioBD, Fridays and Sundays 6-8 p.m. Egan is also a weekly contributor to the Boston Globe and Boston.com

NASJA, founded in 1963 as the United States Ski Writers Association, is North America's largest association of professional snowsports writers, authors, photographers, videographers, broadcasters and industry professionals.
