Natick, Mass., April 1, 2016—After much anticipation and more than 66,000 votes tallied, SAM Magazine and HKD Snowmakers are honored to announce the Sunday River, ME, Snowmaking Crew as the winner of the 2016 I Am a Snowmaker Award. SAM and HKD Snowmakers joined forces in November 2013 to recognize six outstanding snowmakers from mountain resorts across North America. These unsung heroes were asked to share their stories—their hardships, their successes, and their passion—and that one moment that made them say, “I want to be a snowmaker.”

For 2016, the Award's scope was expanded to recognize six standout snowmaking crews from mountain resorts across North America: Copper Mountain, CO, Okemo Mountain, VT, Sunday River, ME, Whistler Blackcomb, BC, Cataloochee Ski Area, NC, and Stowe, VT. This new twist emphasized the importance of the team and camaraderie in the snowmaking profession, as these themes have been the common thread among past I AM nominees. There's no “I” in "snowmaker," after all.
