Welcome to this month's update on important happenings about prominent people in the ski industry. The July issue of SAM will have a full list of people, awards, and obituaries in the Industry Report department.

Decorated former World Cup GS skier Nick Cohee has joined the management team at California's China Peak as director of skiing. In his new role with the family business, Cohee will be involved in a variety of functions at the resort, including administration, mountain and base operations, ski school, social media, special events, and promotions. China Peak is owned and operated by Nick's father, Tim.

There are new faces at the Canada West Ski Areas Association. Three new board members have joined the team alongside new CEO Christopher Nicholson, who took over leadership of the organization in April. Debbie Muirhead, owner at Inter-Mtn Testing and Inter-Mtn Enterprises, was voted in as the new associate member director. She has been involved with CWSAA for many years, previously serving as the associate member representative from 2008 to 2010. Thierry Keable is general counsel and corporate secretary of Whistler Blackcomb and is now serving as the BC Yukon division director. He will also provide guidance to the board of directors in fiduciary matters. Shawn Balog, general manager of Snow Valley Ski Club in Edmonton, Alberta, has joined the board as the Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba (ASM) division director.

Mike Roth has joined the team at Gunstock as the new director of marketing and sales. Roth replaces Bill Quigley, who left for a position with New Hampshire Motor Speedway. While most recently serving as a consultant for the ski industry, Roth has a long history within the resort world, having worked at Sugar Bowl, Northstar-at-Tahoe, Squaw Valley, and Booth Creek Ski Holdings.

After nearly 40 years with Powdr, chief sustainability officer Brent Giles is retiring. Giles spent his career as an industry leader in promoting and implementing sustainable practices. He is a founding member of the NSAA Climate Change program and in 2015 was honored as the Hero of Sustainability by SKI Magazine. In the press release announcing his retirement, Giles said, “In the future, my wish is that all businesses and individuals will understand that our environment can get along just fine without us, but we can't survive without our environment.”
