SAM Magazine—Park City, Utah, June 21, 2016—Powdr Corp has submitted plans to build a 52,000-square-foot indoor action sports center at Gorgoza Park outside of Park City that would be called Woodward Park City. This would be the fifth Woodward location in the U.S.woodwardPC emailsize

PlanWorks Design, on behalf of Powdr Corp, has submitted a conditional-use permit application to the Summit County Planning Department. The application describes a facility equipped with indoor trampolines, ramps, foam pits, pump tracks, concrete skate park, and a digital media studio. It would serve athletes in several different sports, including skiing, snowboarding, gymnastics, skateboarding, and freestyle BMX.

The proposal includes several outdoor enhancements to Gorgoza Park in addition to the indoor facility, among them a quad chairlift, expanded snowmaking, and a continuation of the existing tubing operations at Gorgoza Park. Plans also foresee an outdoor skate park, expanded mountain biking trail system, and a bike park. At buildout, the project would cover nearly 130 acres.

"Powdr Corp has been wanting to bring one of these facilities to the area for some time," said Michael Barille of PlanWorks Design. "They recognize how many kids are involved in action sports, and want to help them learn those skills in a safe environment.” The primary customers at Woodward Park City would be between the ages of five and 15.

Several years ago, Powdr sought to construct a similar facility in the lower parking lots at the base of Park City Mountain Resort, which it owned at the time. However, the project was abandoned after Vail Resorts purchased the property in 2014.

The Park Record reports that Gorgoza Park's 1999 Specially Planned Area included the potential for Powdr to expand the facilities for more action-sports-related activities. The tubing hill was created in early 2000, but no other development has occurred since. County planning staff is reviewing the current application.

Powdr-Woodward is hosting a community open house on June 21 to address any concerns the public may have. Executive vice president and COO of Woodward Jody Churich said the purpose of the open house is to be as "transparent and open to the community as possible."

Immediately after submitting the application, Powdr-Woodward LLC also submitted paperwork to the United States Patent and Trademark Office for two trademarks related to the facility: Woodward Park City and Park City Woodward.
