The August edition of our monthly highlight of happenings to prominent people and suppliers in the mountain resort industry.

Doug Pierini- Kirkwood

Doug Pierini joined the team at Kirkwood Mountain Resort in late June as the new vice president and general manager. Pierini was most recently vice president of skier services at Breckenridge, where he oversaw ski and ride school, product sales and service, and summer operations. “His ability to lead multiple lines of business successfully while focusing on the leadership development of his team will serve him, and his team in Kirkwood, very well going forward,” said Pete Sonntag, COO of Heavenly, Kirkwood, and Northstar. Pierini has held positions at several resorts and was a member of the PSIA National Team for three terms totaling 12 years.

New Staff at Inntopia

Inntopia has been busy expanding this summer, with a new office in Burlington, Vt., and several new staff members joining the team. Matt Sontum, Jake Guckert, and Thomas (TJ) Alaimo have joined the software development team. Julianna Fedrizzi is now a strategic account manager with the partner services team. Bill Kushubar is joining the Stowe, Vt., office as vice president of sales. Kushubar will be focusing on new vertical markets, namely waterparks and attractions. Mike Lawrence has also joined the sales team out of Seattle. He will be working with current partners in the western U.S.

Jan Leonard Award

At the completion of the ASC B77.1 Committee meeting held in Nashville, Tenn., Doug Allen, VP of mountain operations at Steamboat Resort, and LeRoy Shultz, past chairman of the B77, received the inaugural Jan W. Leonard Award for “exceptional contribution to the B77 American Standards Committee.” The award will be given annually to qualifying individuals on the basis of their participation, commitment, and tenure in the lift industry, as determined by the members of the B77.1 Committee. The award is sponsored by the Committee and Skytrac Lifts, and is named after legendary lift builder and founder of Skytrac, Jan Leonard, who died in 2015.
