Push to The Latest: No

SAM Magazine—Killington, Vt., Oct. 25, 2016—Killington opened for the 2016-17 winter season today at noon, kicking things off in the East. Today was just for Killington season passholders; the resort plans to open to the general public at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Five inches of snow fell over the weekend, and cold temps allowed snowmakers to start producing snow early Sunday morning. Following a brief warm-up on Monday, snowmaking resumed Monday night on two upper-mountain trails that accumulated enough of a base to open by midday today.

“After last season we are not taking anything for granted, and will continue to make snow at every possible opportunity, at every elevation with the necessary temperature and humidity conditions,” said Killington president Mike Solimano.

Guests must take a gondola to the summit and hike up a walkway to access the 600 vertical feet of snow. Downloading is required to get back to the base of the mountain.

Killington treated passholders with free coffee and hot chocolate this morning, as well as free lunch. Many of the first few guests in line at the gondola were given free branded “Day One” beanies.

Beginning on Wednesday, Oct. 26, K-1 Express Gondola lift hours will be 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (for uphill loading). The North Ridge Triple will allow uploading until 3:45 p.m. Lift ticket rates will be $55 for adults (19-64), $42 for youth (7-18) and $47 for seniors (65-79). Express Card holders will receive 50 percent off window rate for midweek, and 25 percent off weekend rates.
