To combat what has been “a long-standing challenge,” Waterville Valley, N.H., partnered with General Properties, LLC, to invest in a property, The Snow Star Inn, which will provide workforce housing.

The Snow Star Inn is located 2.5 miles from the resort and offers a mix of roughly 40 bunk-style, hotel-style, and condo-style units. Depending on the time of year and job classifications of the staff staying there, it can accommodate 40 to 70 people. The rent at Snow Star can be paid weekly or monthly, depending on the lease agreement. Staff have the option to have the cost taken directly from their paychecks. Transportation will be provided to and from the resort.

Waterville GM Tim Smith said, “To live in the place that you work is very important for the resort, as it enhances the skiing lifestyle of the Waterville Valley community. It also strengthens an employee's work life experience and provides the security necessary to pursue this lifestyle career. I've always said that it's the people that make the resort, and the strongest asset in Waterville Valley is our people.”
