Push to The Latest: No

SAM Magazine—Park City, Utah, Nov. 22, 2016)—Snowsports Industries America just released its annual Snow Sports Market Intelligence Report, detailing the SIAlogo emailsizeperformance of snow sports-related retail sales in North America.

During the 2015-16 season, the report shows the retail market brought in $4.7 billion, which is down less than one percent year-over-year. This represents a strong showing nationally considering the challenging winter east of the Rockies. That division of success is apparent according to the regional numbers, with specialty sales in the Northeast down 14 percent to $658 million, and sales west of Kansas saw a stellar increase of 16 percent to $1.1 billion.

A total of 11.6 million skiers said they participated last season, and 7.6 million snowboarders took to the slopes, as well. The number of skiers who said they participate in freeskiing rather than alpine skiing rose four percent to 4.6 million in 2015-16.

According to SIA, the report “gives suppliers, reps, and retailers a complete view of the snow sports market and a detailed view of each category and market channel in order to compare pricing, unit and dollar volume by channel, regional sales, participant numbers and identity profiles, latest trends, and most impactful news stories of the season.”
