SAM Magazine—Truckee, Calif., Jan. 5, 2017—Mountain resorts continue to make progress combating the ongoing housing crisis, with Northstar California the most recent to step up. The resort will participate in the newly emerging Truckee North Tahoe Regional Housing Council, kicking in $30,000 to its Housing Solutions Fund. The money will be used to prioritize opportunities, support resident assistance programs, and leverage capital funding.

Northstar GM Nadia Guerriero said, “The community leadership comprising the TNT Regional Housing Council is a critical next step in creating innovative and community-oriented solutions to address the real housing needs in Truckee and North Lake Tahoe.”

In 2016, the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation (TTCF) commissioned a housing study that revealed some staggering data about the situation in the Truckee North Tahoe area. For instance, an estimated 12,160 additional housing units will be needed for the workforce in upcoming years. The current estimated wait time for an affordable housing unit ranges from six months to two years. And a whopping 76 percent of residents overpay for housing, which is defined as spending more than 30 percent of their income on housing. The formation of the TNT Regional Housing Council resulted from this study.

“Northstar's financial and leadership support of the TNT Regional Housing Council shows a clear commitment to ensuring that the housing needs for employees, families, and businesses throughout the region begin to get addressed. We are proud to welcome Northstar to the Council table,” said Stacy Caldwell, TTCF CEO.
