SAM Magazine—Copper Mountain, Colo., March 28, 2017—Several improvements for both winter and summer are on the docket at Copper Mountain in Colorado. The resort plans to install a new high-speed quad chairlift and RFID gates at the lifts in time for the 2017-18 winter season. New warm-season activities include an alpine coaster, obstacle course, and a mountain biking trail.

“The future is extremely bright for Copper,” said Copper president and GM Gary Rodgers. “These strategic capital improvements will enhance our product offerings and truly elevate the year-round guest experience at Copper.”

A Doppelmayr high-speed quad will replace the existing Kokomo triple that serves Copper's beginner terrain. The lift will gain 362 vertical feet and extend 215 feet downhill from the existing footprint for easier access from Copper's West Village. Ride time will be four minutes.

All main mountain access lifts, including Union Creek Quad, American Flyer, American Eagle, and Super Bee, will have RFID gates installed.

Aquatic Development Group is building a 5,800-foot-long alpine coaster that Copper is billing as “the longest alpine coaster in North America.” The new attraction will descend 430 vertical feet at an average grade of 10.9 percent. It is expected to open in September 2017.

Also for summer, a new Woodward Copper WreckTangle obstacle course will be located in the heart of Center Village. It will feature foam pits and cargo nets.

The obstacle course and alpine coaster add to Copper's existing summer activities, which include a zip line, go-kart track, and summer terrain park called “Big Island.” The Island is made from leftover snow from the resort's superpipe. New this summer, the resort will add a “snow zone” area for families to play in the harvested snow near the terrain park.
