SAM Magazine—Price Township, Pa., May 31, 2017—Alpine Mountain in Pennsylvania has new owners for the fourth time in the last 10 years after Jim and Linda Schlier alpinemountain esizeclosed on the property last week for the price of $412,500. The Schliers, though, don't plan to operate the mountain as a ski area.

Alpine's previous owners, the father-son duo of Kevin Fabiano and Kevin Jr., purchased it in 2014 with ambitious plans to invest millions of dollars into renovating facilities and elevate the skiing and riding experience. But in the fall of 2016, the resort was in Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and the Fabianos said the mountain wouldn't open for skiing and riding. They planned to lease the property and the building to a motocross company. Much of the mountain's equipment—including snow tubes, snow guns, machinery, and even the ice rink—was sold at auction.

Now, the Schliers, who own a local towing company and a Harley-Davidson dealership, “plan to make it a destination resort without the skiing.” They hope to cater to motorcyclists, but aren't exactly sure how.

“It wasn't economically feasible for the previous owner to maintain and keep the skiing open, given the recent warm winters we've had,” Jim Schlier said. “So, we plan to sell two of the three ski lifts and keep one.”
