SAM Magazine-Hemlock Valley, B.C., Sept. 25, 2006-Ice hockey entrepreneur Ralf Berezan, owner of the Junior A Surrey Eagles ice hockey team, has purchased British Columbia's Hemlock Valley Resort and expects to have the mountain open this season. Berezan, who also owns a variety of pubs in British Columbia, purchased the resort out of receivership.

The mountain, approximately 70 miles east of Vancouver, features four lifts serving 1,300 vertical feet and a modest 300 skiable acres. Complementing the alpine skiing is a nordic center with 13 kilometers of groomed trails. The expected opening date is Dec.1, 2006.


Cargill evokes 36 million kilos involving surface game hen

Cargill Meat Solutions Corporation announced Wednesday an immediate voluntary recall of approximately 36 million pounds of ground turkey meat mainly because it may very well be contaminated with salmonella bacteria.

Cargill's plant in Springdale, Arkansas, processed the suspect fresh and frozen ground turkey products between February 20 and August 2, the corporation said in the news release.

Federal health authorities said Tuesday that outbreak of multi-drug-resistant Salmonella Heidelberg who has killed a single person and sickened 76 others in 26 states is traced to ground turkey products.
