SAM Magazine--Big Sky, Mont., Aug. 24, 2004--U.S. District Judge Richard F. Cebull has dismissed a lawsuit filed by Yellowstone Mountain Club owner Tim Blixseth against the U.S. Forest Service in an effort to gain control of a parcel of land atop Lone Peak, home to both Big Sky and Moonlight Basin and neighbor to the Yellowstone Club. The judge ruled that Moonlight Basin had rights to the disputed turf that pre-dated Blixseth's claim, making the suit moot.

The land in question covers less than an acre and is adjacent to the top terminal of Big Sky's tram. Blixseth had hoped to build a lift to the spot, which would give the Yellowstone Club 4,000 vertical feet of skiing and riding. Moonlight has no immediate plans for the parcel, which is not part of its current operations. \
