SAM Magazine-Lakewood, Colo., Aug. 23, 2006-NSAA is partnering with Renewable Choice Energy to offer renewable power to all members at below-market rates of less than 1 cent per kWh. The aim is to make it easier for resort and supplier members to purchase green power and join an industry-wide effort to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming.

A number of ski areas across the country are already purchasing green power for their operations. NSAA hopes to generate enough additional participation from both area and supplier members to make winter sports an example for the rest of the business community. To help members promote their involvement with green power, NSAA and Renewable Choice can provide areas with marketing support, including photos and background info on renewable energy.

Typically, "green power" refers to renewable and non-polluting energy sources including wind, geothermal, small-scale hydro, solar or biomass power. Since the burning of fossil fuels in the production of electricity is one of the major sources of greenhouse gases, the use of green power can make a difference in the fight against global warming and help decrease dependency on foreign energy sources.
