SAM Magazine-Seattle, Wash., Aug. 18, 2005-Acordia Resort & Recreation is partnering with Markel Re's SMART (Specialized Markel Alternative Risk Transfer) division. "The addition of SMART as a key partner will allow us to expand the scope and competitiveness of the Resort program," said John Roberts, managing director of Acordia Alternative Risk.

"All our current program services and systems will remain the same," said Brian Derouin, Acordia Resort & Recreation manager. "Our team of specialized customer service, loss control, and claims personnel will continue to provide the advice and support the industry relies on."

"Markel Re's position in the industry and our capabilities will help the Resort program grow," said Roger Greiner, president of SMART. The division produces and underwrites alternative market business using nontraditional distribution channels and alternative risk financing mechanisms.
