SAM Magazine—Waterville Valley, N.H., Nov. 23, 2016—New Hampshire governor-elect Chris Sununu will resign as CEO of Waterville Valley Resort and relinquish his position on the board of directors, effective Dec.Sununu esize 31, 2016. His gubernatorial term begins Jan. 4, 2017. Tim Smith has been promoted to president and GM of the resort, and will report to the Waterville Valley Holdings board of directors.

“It has been an honor to build and work with this team at Waterville Valley Resort,” said Sununu. “I am very excited to see them continue to succeed. We have great guests and a charming destination. You can bet I'll be looking forward to skiing Waterville Valley with my family for years to come.”

Sununu was part of an investment group that acquired Waterville from Booth Creek in 2010, and has served as CEO since, in addition to being the GM from 2013 to 2015. During his tenure at Waterville, Sununu invested in business and community growth through renewed summer business, workforce housing, and the development of Green Peak, the resort's first expansion in more than 30 years.

At 42, he will be the nation's youngest governor. His father, John H. Sununu, served as New Hampshire governor from 1983 to 1989. Chris' brother John E. Sununu was a New Hampshire U.S. senator who served a six-year term beginning in 2003.
