SAM Magazine—Boyne Falls, Mich., Aug. 27, 2018—Three Boyne Resorts executives have been selected to lead operations for the company’s portfolio, based on geography and business specialty. Rick Kelley, previously senior vice president of mountain Boyne Resorts logooperations, has been appointed chief operating officer of eastern and Michigan mountain resorts. John McGregor is chief operating officer of western ski areas and Tennessee attractions. And Barb Rooney, senior vice president of lodging, spa and owner services, expands her oversight to include the company's lakeside resort operations in Bay Harbor, Michigan. All three begin their new roles immediately.

“As we prepare for future growth and opportunities, having the right people in the right seat is critical and these organizational changes are a big step forward in that process,” said Boyne Resorts president CEO Stephen Kircher. “We are fortunate to have their expertise and commitment to excellence guiding the operations of these resort properties.”

Kelley has more than 40 years of experience in the ski and mountain resort industries, starting in 1977 as a snowmaker at Loon Mountain, N.H. He rose through the ranks at Loon and was named the resort's general manager in 1998. He was promoted to Boyne Resorts' senior vice president of mountain operations in July 2017. As chief operating officer of Eastern/Michigan mountain resorts, Kelley's oversight includes operations at Boyne Highlands Resort and Boyne Mountain Resort, Mich., Loon, and Sugarloaf and Sunday River, Maine.

McGregor has been with Boyne Resorts for more than 40 years. He began his career in mountain operations at Boyne Highlands, Mich. He was named general manager there in 1986; in 2006, he rose to be Boyne Resorts senior vice president of mountain operations. In July 2017, he was named chief operating officer of the company's day ski areas. Now, his oversight focuses on western ski areas, including Brighton Resort, Utah, Cypress Mountain, B.C., and The Summit at Snoqualmie, Wash. He will continue overseeing ski operations and related capital investment projects at Big Sky Resort, Mont., as well as the operations at Gatlinburg SkyLift in Tennessee. Overall operations at Big Sky Resort remain the responsibility of resort president and GM Taylor Middleton.

Rooney launched her career when joining the reservations team at Big Sky in 1991. She was promoted to hotel manager in 1996, and helped open the resort's Summit Hotel in 2000. She was named Boyne Resorts senior vice president of lodging, spa and owner services in 2015. Rooney's role is now expanded to include oversight of operations in Bay Harbor, Mich., including Inn at Bay Harbor – Autograph Collection, plus nearby Bay Harbor and Crooked Tree golf clubs.
