Push to The Latest: No

SAM Magazine—Mesa County, Colo., Nov. 16, 2018—Powderhorn Mountain Resort has named Ryan Schramm as its new general manager, filling a role that has been vacant since July. The move follows on the heels of Pacific Group Resorts, Inc. (PGRI) taking over operations of the resort, and a new equity partnership aimed at infusing significant capital investment to improve infrastructure and grow year-round business. ScharmmHN

Schramm is moving to Powderhorn from Ragged Mountain, N.H., which is owned and operated by PGRI, where he served as GM for the past five years and, prior to that, as the director of alpine ski racing.

While at Ragged, Schramm helped create the discount season pass program called “Mission: Affordable,” and implement the Bebe Wood Free Learn To Ski and Ride program, which offers newbies free lessons and affordable season passes and equipment upon graduation. Powderhorn licensed Mission: Affordable from PGRI last spring, and the program has already doubled the number of season passholders for the coming season.

Schramm appreciates the support he's received from PGRI. “It’s been great to work with a company that doesn’t do things the same way as everyone else and allows someone like myself to be creative with problem solving,” he says. “It works to be creative in order to tackle some of those issues that are a hot topic in the industry.”

Schramm has some pragmatic chops as well. At Ragged, he facilitated major efficiency upgrades to the snowmaking system, and is currently working with a team on a snowmaking master plan for Powderhorn. The area hopes to implement the plan in spring. As a mountain biker, he plans to have a hand in the design of Powderhorn’s mountain bike trail expansion, too.
