SAM Magazine—Mount Snow, Vt., Feb. 6, 2024—Nearly 12,000 votes were cast during the 12-day voting period for the 2024 I AM a Snowmaker contest. This year’s contest showcased eight snowmaking teams from across North America: Brettons Woods, N.H.; Cataloochee Ski Area, N.C.; Copper Mountain, Colo.;  Gore Mountain, N.Y.; Greek Peak, N.Y.; Mammoth Mountain, Calif.; Panorama, B.C.; and Waterville Valley, N.H.

The I AM a Snowmaker contest—sponsored by HKD Snowmakers—was launched in 2013 and puts a spotlight on the expertise and character of a wide variety of snowmaking teams across North America.

This year’s competing teams each produced a “day in the life" video that captured the heart and soul of their snowmaking team. The videos showcase how snowmakers' contributions to the mountain result in personal development and the overall success of an operation.  Voting concluded Friday, Feb. 2, and the winner was announced Feb. 6 at an HKD event at the NSAA Eastern Conference at Mount Snow, Vt.

 HKD will host the winning team at its Canadian headquarters in Quebec City, Quebec, for two days of education and entertainment. The I AM a Snowmaker winners will be given the opportunity to dive deep into HKD’s best-selling products and learn how to maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and safely operate HKD equipment.

“The votes have been cast and the 2024 I AM a Snowmaker winner is Greek Peak. As always, the competition was tough. The videos creatively captured the character and personality of each snowmaking team. With nearly 12,000 votes cast this year, we can see there is plenty of interest in the craft of snowmaking,” said HKD president Charles Santry.  “Thank you to everyone for participating.  And a big thank you to our friends at SAM for once again coordinating the contest and collecting votes. We are excited to host the team from Greek Peak at our factory in Quebec to see our manufacturing in action and have some fun at the same time.”
