SAM Magazine-Donnelly, Ida., Aug. 31, 2006-Tamarack Resort will offer guided backcountry services on 5,000 acres of terrain north and south of the resort boundaries this season under a special use permit from the U.S. Forest Service. The permit expands Tamarack's available terrain five-fold.

The new National Forest terrain includes chutes, cliffs, and bowls, some of which were included in earlier, unsuccessful proposals for the mountain. The area's existing boundaries are entirely on private and state-owned land, a factor that greatly facilitated the area's approval early in this decade.

Within those original boundaries, Tamarack crews have thinned trees in three major drainages, resulting in more than 250 acres of new lift-accessed gladed terrain, bringing the resort's trail count to 38.

As part of its long-term agreement with local snowmobilers, and to reinforce its position as a multi-sport, year-round adventure destination, Tamarack will also open a 1,700-square-foot "Sled Shed" near the resort summit for snowmobile enthusiasts, both members of the public and resort guests. The shed will provide a place for snowmobile storage along with the sale of fuel, food and drinks, and minor repair services for snowmobile riders. The shed also will serve as the departure point for Tamarack's daily snowmobile tours from the summit.

Tamarack also continues to expand its bed base with the addition of 140 two- to four-bedroom townhomes and individual residences.
