SAM Magazine-Reno, Nev., Mar. 6, 2009-A ski patroller working avalanche control routes at Squaw Valley was killed due to trauma sustained after being caught in an slide last Tuesday. Andrew Entin was partially buried by the avalanche, but injuries sustained during the incident were severe enough to kill him, according to Squaw officials. Entin was a long-time member of the ski area's patrol.

"The Squaw Valley family unites in wishing Andrew Entin's wife and family our deepest sympathy. Our hearts go out to them at this difficult time. We will not forget Andrew, his camaraderie and his courage," said Nancy Cushing, the resort's chief executive officer.

The resort has seen massive amounts of snow since last week, more than four feet in the 24-hour period prior to Entin's death. The storms forced the cancellation of the second day of a Freeride World Tour event that was scheduled to be held on permanently closed terrain known as the "Tram Face" at Squaw. \
