SAM Magazine - Lee Canyon, NV, March 14, 2007 - Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort has announced that the mountain will be temporary closed as of Sunday, March 18 due to record high temperatures and a below average snowpack.

The small resort, which features three chairlifts and is a mere 45 minutes from the strip is a Las Vegas anomaly. Situated on the north facing slopes of Mount Charleston, and with a base elevation over 8,000 feet, the ski hill is one of the best kept secrets in Sin City, often rewarding adventuresome skiers with epic powder days while The Strip is bathed in sunny, warm weather.

But the mountain also suffers from an unpredictable southern storm flow. This season the resort received only 72 inches of snow; 4 feet shy of reaching the average snowfall of 120 inches.

"Last year, we received nearly 10 feet of snow in March. These warm and dry conditions have impacted the snow conditions for the worse. If the weather changes soon, there is a possibility that we may reopen with limited services, as the conditions allow. It will require a significant snowstorm to reopen and we are standing by to make that happen," says Brian Strait, LVSS General Manager. \
