SAM Magazine-Cannonsburg, Mich., July 1, 2010-The Brown family, which has owned and operated Cannonsburg Ski Area for more than three decades, has sold the resort to James Wynn, an attorney in Petoskey. The sale also includes Arnold Transportation, a ferry boat company operating out of Mackinaw City. Both Cannonsburg and Arnold Transportation have been owned by heirs of Prentiss Brown for decades-the area since 1977, Arnold since 1921.

No immediate change in operations is anticipated at Cannonsburg.

The sale came as the longtime family business reached its third generation, according to Bob Brown, general manager of Arnold Transportation and one member of the third generation, according to the Grand Rapids Press. "We've been talking about this for seven or eight years," he noted, adding that several members of the third generation of Browns have moved away from the area and the family businesses.

Details of the transaction were not released. Wynn has two financial backers, published reports said, but he declined to name them.
