SAM Magazine—Chehalis, B.C., Feb., 9, 2015—Hemlock Resort will not open this season due to warm temperatures and precipitation that has come in the form of rain rather than snow, while Utah's Cherry Peak remains closed while new owners continue renovations on the base lodge.

At Hemlock, “There's zero, absolutely zero [snow] for most of the mountain, we're in the middle of a 200 millimeter rainfall warning right now, and we won't have anything left,” wrote Kevin Bourdin, general manager, in an open letter to Hemlock's local skiers and riders posted to its website last week.

Bourdin said that this is the worst season he can remember, “even worse than the terrible season we had when Vancouver hosted the Olympics. We were open on New Year's Eve that year, last year was sort of the second worst year and we got open on January 16, this year's just been absolutely atrocious,” Bourdin said.

Season passholders can request full refunds by April 1, 2015, or simply use their 2014-15 passes for the 2015-16 season.

Hemlock has a base elevation of 3,200 feet, peaking out at 4,500 feet. The resort is in the Douglas Ranges. The resort closed due to bankruptcy in 2005 and was purchased in 2006 by Berezan Hospitality group and reopened that December.

In Richmond, Utah, Cherry Peak had planned to reopen for the coming season. But some of the resort's renovations have taken longer than planned, and the resort now intends to open for the 2015-16 season. It is offering refunds to those who purchased passes, as well as discounts for next season.
