SAM Magazine—Toronto, Ontario, Oct 16, 2015—In the yearly battle to be the first resort to open in North America, Killington, Vt., is gunning for the top. The Beast of the East has targeted Sunday, Oct.18 as its opening day, hours ahead of rival Sunday River, Maine.

During a Ski Vermont media reception on Oct. 15 in Toronto, Ont., held in conjunction with the Toronto Snow Show, Killington's communications/PR manager Michael Joseph told the crowd, “I'd love to blow your minds with some big news.

“I don't know if you have heard, but Sunday River in western Maine announced they're going to open for skiing and riding next Monday,” said Joseph. “They think they're going to be first people in the U.S. to open for skiing and riding, and they're wrong, because Killington is going to open on Sunday. We're going to be the first resort open in North America thanks to our awesome snowmakers. Ski season is here starting Sunday.”

The resort says it will open to season pass and Express Card holders starting at noon on Oct. 18, and to the general public beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Oct. 19.
