SAM Magazine—Boston, Mass., Nov. 17, 2015—David Ingemie, president of Snowsports Industries America (SIA), was presented with the 30th annual BEWI Award during a luncheon in his honor on Nov. 13 at the Seaport World Trade Center on Boston Harbor.

BEWI Productions president Bernie Weichsel, the award's namesake, called David “an iconic figure in the U.S and international snowsports business,” noting that he has headed up SIA for more than 30 years. SIA is the national trade association representing the suppliers of consumer snowsports products.

The luncheon was held in conjunction with the 34th annual Boston.com Ski & Snowboard Expo, which is produced by BEWI.

In making the presentation before more than 150 ski industry leaders, Weichsel said, “David has been an innovator in snowsports marketing and market research. He has worked steadfastly to expand participation in and sales throughout all aspects of snowsports. Our industry is that much better thanks to the tremendous contributions David has made to it.”

Ingemie began his career at SIA in 1976 as its marketing director and moved up to the CEO position in 1979. His first job in the ski industry was at Wachusett Mountain in Princeton, Mass. where he was named marketing director in 1969.

During his tenure at SIA, David was among one of the first industry leaders to embrace snowboarding as a mainstream sport. He is a pioneer of the idea that market research can guide product and program development for the ski industry.
